Calling all artists—The Rolling Hills Plein Air Event welcomes spring with a celebration of renewal and wide-open Texas beauty. Join us among the soft, sweeping hills as the landscape turns lush and wildflowers bloom in vibrant color. Wander through charming villages rooted in the mid-1800s, and capture the spirit, stories, and timeless character of this special place alongside us.
Twelve juried artists from across the country will gather in Round Top for a five-day plein air painting event, capturing the beauty of the region’s rolling hills, historic architecture, and vibrant spring landscapes.
Hosted by Studio Texas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing visual arts education and cultural experiences, the festival offers visitors a rare opportunity to watch nationally recognized artists painting on location throughout the area. Artists will work “en plein air,” completing paintings outdoors within designated festival boundaries during the official painting period.
Throughout the week, artists will explore the landscape and create original works inspired by the character and charm of Round Top. Finished paintings will be submitted for judging and displayed in the Wet Gallery, where collectors and visitors may view and purchase the freshly completed artwork.
Join us for an immersive, one-day experience centered on the art of gouache, led by renowned artist Natalia Andreeva. This hands-on workshop will explore technique, color harmony, brushwork, and composition, offering practical instruction alongside inspired creative exploration. Whether refining your skills or discovering gouache for the first time, participants will gain valuable insight into Natalia’s distinctive approach and process.
Join us for a full two-day workshop, featuring internationally recognized artist Karen Vernon. Over the course of Monday and Tuesday, Karen will guide students in watercolor or the watermedia of their choice, offering personalized instruction, thoughtful demonstrations, and insight into her creative process.
Watch creativity in real time, or step in and paint. Artists work on location in historic Round Top, then display, get judged, and sell their finished pieces the same day.
